What Do You Want To Be When You Grow Up?
It may have been a while since someone asked you that question. Our goal here at Career & Academic Planning Services (CAPS) is to ask you that question again, and then...help you to find a satisfactory answer.
A good career choice is one of the most important contributions to an individual's psychological and spiritual well-being. This is not a long-distance, computer, or telephone counseling program. Here at CAPS, we sit down with you one-on-one and, step-by-step, we help you to make a good career choice, and answer the all-important question..."What Do You Want To Be When You Grow Up?"
The Career Planning Process
The career planning process is not terribly complicated. Basically, you need to know two things to make a good career choice...
1) You need to know yourself.
2) You need to know the jobs.
If either one of these two basic knowledges is missing, then you are searching in the dark.
If you know yourself inside and out, but you don't know anything about today's labor market and how to do research into it, then it's possible that you might miss some careers that would have been great matches for you.
If you know all about the world of work (all of the hottest career fields, and those that will pay the most money), but you don't know anything about yourself, you may be able to choose a lucrative, secure occupational goal, but you increase the chances of winding up with a career that will leave you feeling dissatisfied and unfulfilled.
